Can I get a WOOP WOOP? Join me in congratulating June’s full time clinician of the month – Jewel Johnson! Jewel was recently extended at her current assignment and received phenomenal feedback from the team at Hopkins. They noted she is a great team player, highly adaptable, and always willing to take on a new assignment without hesitation. The administrative team has found her to be a joy to work with – some even may call her a real jewel, or a diamond in the rough (puns intended). Read on to learn more about Jewel and her story with CMS:
Where did you grow up? Philadelphia, PA
How did you get into healthcare, specifically Telemetry nursing? I was an Army medic and wanted to have a career with more opportunities. So, the Army sent me back to school to become a nurse. As more and more medical/surgical floors added telemetry, I wanted to keep up my skills, so I became telemetry certified.
Where did you work before CMS, and how did you learn about CMS Before CMS, I was on staff at a local hospital. Prior to that, I was a traveler for ten years from Virginia that had traveled and settled in Maryland. I wanted to become a traveler again, so I contacted several agencies on-line, and CMS was one of the many agencies that contacted me back.
What is your favorite part about your current agency assignment through CMS? My favorite part of this assignment is the self scheduling. I feel like I am a part of the staff, instead of just getting the “left-over” shifts.
What is your favorite part about working for an agency? My favorite part about working for an agency is that I am not stagnant, nor bored. I like meeting new people and seeing what else I can learn on my different assignments.
Would you recommend agency nursing to other clinicians? Yes, I would recommend agency nursing to others. Why? Agencies are offering almost the same benefits as other employers. You can work in one city or see the sights across the United States, while still receiving an income.
What has made you so successful in your career? Being a team player has made me very successful in my career. I respect and help out my co-workers; which speaks volumes when one becomes overwhelm with work.
What are your hobbies? I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and our two dogs.
Let us know one random interesting fact about you very few people know. I just stared taking water aerobics to keep fit.
What was your reaction to being named ‘Agency Clinician of the Month’? “Really….there is such a thing?” I can’t think of any employers that do this anymore.
Congrats again, Jewel! We are so luck to have yo as part of our team!
