Our January Clinician of the Month has been announced – congratulations to Mark Carr!
He has completed over 20 contracts with CMS at 7 different hospitals! We truly appreciate all of his hard work. Here’s some more information about Mark:
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Erie, PA. Moved to MD in 1998
How did you get into healthcare, specifically ER and Pediatric nursing?
I remember wanting to be a nurse since high school, it just took me a while to make it happen. I wanted to work in the ER because I liked the fast pace and energy level. I made the leap to PICU because I wanted a new challenge and the opportunity to learn a new skill set.
Where did you work before CMS, and how did you learn about CMS?
Before coming to work at CMS, I worked for three other agencies: FLEX RN, Quality Nurses, and Medstaff. I was also staff at GBMC for 5 years.
What is your favorite part about your current agency assignment through CMS? Past assignments through CMS?
Every contract I have done with CMS has been fun. The staff at CMS have made each transition manageable.
What is your favorite part about working for an agency?
The best part about being an agency nurse is the flexibility with scheduling and meeting new people. I feel that I learn something from each new assignment.
Would you recommend agency nursing to other clinicians? Why?
I would recommend agency nursing to others. It gives one an opportunity to experience multiple facilities and different ways of doing things.
What has made you so successful in your career
The secret to my personal success is flexibility. When entering a new assignment I try to keep an open mind and attempt to establish a good working relationship with the facility. This has served me well.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include golfing, watching soccer, hockey, and football. I also love playing with my children.
Let us know one random interesting fact about you that very few people know.
Random fact about me: I enjoy reading classic literature.
What was your reaction to being named ‘Agency Clinician of the Month’?
I was surprised when I heard that I would be the employee of the month.
