Two Thumbs Up – Josh Beland is October’s Clinician of the Month!

Posted: & Filed Under: Uncategorized

Who as two thumbs and is October’s clinician of the month – THIS GUY (aka Josh Beland)! The team has nothing but the best to say about Josh – he is truly a pleasure to work with. His clinical evaluations note that he is ‘knowledgeable, well organized, and dependable. He even participates with the triage / fast track team for process improvement’ going above and beyond for agency staff! To learn a  bit more about Josh’s story and career read on:

Where did you grow up?
I was born at GBMC in Towson, lived in Baltimore county for a few years and then my family moved to New Freedom, PA.

How did you get into healthcare, specifically ER nursing?
My mother was always in the healthcare industry as an administrative assistant. She urged me to be a nurse. At first, I did not give it a thought, but I slowly changed my mind and could not be happier that I did.

Where did you work before CMS, and how did you learn about CMS?
I worked at York Hospital in the ER and CVICU. A fellow coworker (Jorge Flores) at York Hospital mentioned that he was going to work for CMS. That put the bug in my ear.

What is your favorite part about your current agency assignment through CMS? Past assignments through CMS?
My favorite part about my current assignment w/ CMS are the great hours. I am in Endo – I work 4 days a week and do not have call or weekend responsibilities.

What is your favorite part about working for an agency?
I have really loved having the chance to meet new people and network at different hospitals.

Would you recommend agency nursing to other clinicians? Why?
I would definitely recommend agency nursing. The pay is more competitive and the chance to network is invaluable. It’s also very exciting having the chance to see how different hospitals work.

What has made you so successful in your career?
Having a good nursing school foundation (York College of PA) and great training at York Hospital has allowed me to be successful as a nurse. It also helps having staff at CMS that make it so easy for me to just focus on being a nurse.

What are your hobbies?
I love to golf. I try to go as often as possible. I play in a kickball league in Baltimore city. I have been traveling a lot the past few years. Have gotten to see a lot of different parts of the world (England, Ireland, California, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Traverse City Michigan).

Let us know one random interesting fact about you very few people know.
I was a Division I swimmer in college and swam on the same swim team as Michael Phelps. I was in the same heat as him once in a mile swim and he beat my by about 2 minutes!

What was your reaction to being named ‘Agency Clinician of the Month’?
I was honored and surprised. It feels good to be recognized for hard work. Sometimes working in the ER can be a thankless job.

Join me in congratulating Josh – thanks so much for all your hard work and fantastic attitude!

Way to go Josh! We loved him here at Howard County General in the ER. He was not only a fantastic nurse but certainly a real joy to have around– sang Xmas carols just walking around the department random times of the year. Always smiling. Good team player — always willing to jump in and help out. Congrats Josh on your recognition by CMS. You deserve this!
