July’s Clinician of the Month – Bianca Harris!

Posted: & Filed Under: Clinician of the Month

Chesapeake Medical Staffing is excited to announce that Bianca Harris has been named as July’s Clinician of the Month! She has been a vital part of our team, and we’re happy to share her story with all of you!

“When I graduated high school, I initially wanted to work on television. After my first year at Seton Hill University, I was lucky enough to get an internship, that fell within my broadcasting and communications majors, at a local radio station. I routinely covered celebrity news, current events and played the top ten pop hits. After a few months, I came to dread my broadcasts and I knew immediately that this meant I should consider a different career path. Nursing has always been a career that I could picture myself enjoying, but was in an entirely different realm compared to broadcasting. It felt like comparing apples and oranges! My first step was taking anatomy and physiology, while also testing my critical thinking skills, and then before I knew it, I was hooked and ready for more!

When I wake up in the morning to go to work, I wake up with a smile and I feel like it’s any regular day. Nursing was the piece that I was missing when I initially began my studies, and I feel so grateful to have it in my life today.

Becoming a travel nurse was always a part of the plan that I envisioned when I became a nurse. Being a military brat, I have always traveled to different states and have never been stagnant in one state for long. I think that left a huge impression on me as I became older and wanted to be in a profession that I could pick up and go anywhere, and not be held back because of the location of my job. After working a year on an IMC/telemetry floor, I knew IMC wasn’t a unit I wanted to stay on for long.

I really wanted to go to an ICU, but unexpectedly, I was offered a position in Maryland within the PACU. I jumped at the opportunity and found that PACU nursing is what I truly been yearning for.

Since moving to Maryland, I networked and have met some extraordinary medical professionals, many being registered nurses who referred me to agencies to begin my travel nursing career, and one happened to be for CMS. After researching and researching, I decided that travel nursing is quite refreshing, but one thing I do not want to do is constantly pick up and move. Working with CMS allows me to still travel nurse around the DMV area, live in one location, and still receive all the positive aspects of travel nursing.

As much as I enjoy working at the bedside, I do want to further my education and become a practitioner who specializes in hospice and palliative care. If you ask anyone I work with, they would probably say I build close relationships with my patients. Being a traveler is going to financially help me succeed with affording graduate school and working for CMS has been one of the best decisions I have ever made because with every contract, I am one step closer to becoming a nurse practitioner.”

Bianca’s Recruiting Manager, Kate, was so excited to nominate her for this title. “Bianca has worked with us since September of 2018 and has completed three successful contracts with us, and just got extended for her 4th assignment. We have received wonderful feedback from her managers, and she is a pleasure to work with! Bianca is very responsive, friendly and flexible; a great addition to CMS!”

Wow! Bianca, we are so proud of how far you’ve come and can’t wait to see what you do next!
