Community Health Educator- Cancer Prevention

40 hours/week, M-F  8a to 4:30p with 1/2 hr lunch or 8a to 5p with 1 hr lunch.  They may need to do health fairs on the weekends or presentations in the evenings (can flex their day time when working an evening or weekend)

The Community Health Educator will:

  • Conduct educational & recruitment activities for the Cancer Prevention Programs to meet the goals and objectives of the condition of awards of grant.  This can be achieved by but not limited to educating individuals for breast, cervical, colorectal and lung cancer by developing presentations, educational material and displays to present at health fairs, to community groups, physicians, individuals in community, churches and community organizations.  Continuously monitor progress towards meeting each performance measure and plan activities in order to reach goal.
  • Assist in the development of media messages, press releases, flyers and brochures with information about the targeted cancers and the screening programs.  Maintains a working relationship with the Health Department’s Public Information Officer and Media Relations Specialist to insure information about the CRF-CPEST program, targeted cancers and the cancer coalition is disseminated to the health department’s website and social media sites, other media (including local and regional newspapers, radio stations, television networks), local government and community organizations.
  • Perform educational statistical data entry related to the cancer program as per requirement of the Human Services Agreement, “condition of awards”.
  • Maintain educational and promotional materials and use for educational purposes with the target populations to increase knowledge about the programs targeted cancers, services, programs, and upcoming events.
  • Work with other Harford County Health Department outreach staff, Health Educators, Cancer Coalition members by utilizing them to assist the Office of Cancer Prevention Services in their outreaching efforts within the community.
  • Coordinate the Community Cancer Coalition, recruit new members, plan and facilitate quarterly meetings to meet grant requirements.

Prefer candidate with a degree in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science and prior experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

Must have at least 2 years of clinical experience and 1 year in the specialty requested. Also, must have an updated resume, updated skills checklist, and two recent manager or supervisory references.

Rate Details

Please note: Quoted pay rate is for local candidates. Travelers will be paid the equivalent of the local rate minus housing. Housing stipends available. Please note orientation is paid at full rate and parking is reimbursed. Travelers please request a sample pay stub to see your take home wage.
