Please join me in congratulating Jorge Flores who has been named agency clinician of the month for February! Jorge joined the CMS team in February of 2015 and has been extended on the same assignment 7 times. Yes your read that correct – 7 times! That is a CMS record and a testament to the amazing work Jorge does in both the ER and Pediatric ER at Bayview. The office team has wonderful feedback on Jorge’s attitude, communication, organization, and general working relationship with the team. Clinically, the feedback is much the same – see below for some kind words from his managers:
*Jorge is confident in his skills. He has been very helpful and had adapted well with our new move. He exceeds standard in all categories!
*Jorge is an asset to our pediatric unit – always a resource to other new nurses. He is flexible with his hours and a pleasure for all staff.
Awesome work, Jorge! Read below to see learn more about Jorge and his nursing career. And join me once more in honoring Jorge as CMS’ clinician of the month!
Where did you grow up?
I actually was born in Morelia, Mexico but moved to York, Pennsylvania when I was still an infant which is where I was raised and my family still resides.
How did you get into healthcare, specifically ER Nursing?
I always knew I wanted to go into the medical field since I was a teenager. I decided to pursue nursing after learning more about the career and opportunities from multiple student nurses. Becoming a nurse was the best decision I made out of high school.
Where did you work before CMS, and how did you learn about CMS?
I began my nursing career at York Hospital in their Emergency Department as a graduate nurse. I fell in love with the high pace and unpredictability of emergency medicine. I also worked as a travel nurse for a few months in the Bronx in a small overcrowded ED. I learned about CMS through a ex coworker that used to work for CMS.
What is your favorite part about your current agency assignment through CMS? Past assignments through CMS?
I’ve been at Bayview for about two years now. My favorite part about my current assignment in the Pediatrics ED is feeling valued by staff and learning so much by working closely with the providers.
What is your favorite part about working for an agency?
My favorite part about working for an agency is the flexibility throughout contracts to be able to travel and vacation.
Would you recommend agency nursing to other clinicians? Why?
I always recommend agency nursing, specifically CMS because of the benefits and opportunities to work at different hospital settings, all while having one employer. The staff at CMS are always there to help you with whatever you need.
What has made you so successful in your career?
My success in my career is a result of having the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge from working at different emergency departments. I’ve also had the privilege of graduating from York College’s nursing program, where I felt prepared to take on my first job as a registered nurse.
What are your hobbies?
As far as hobbies, I really enjoy getting out of the house and spending time with my two beautiful Siberian Huskies, Niko and Nya, whether it’s at the dog park or long bike ride along a trail. I also love to travel and try to slip a weekend getaway now and then to new places. When the weather is nice out, I really enjoy cooking up some new things with my smoker and simply just spending time with friends.
Let us know one random interesting fact about you very few people know.
I have a slight addiction to shopping on amazon.
What was your reaction to being named ‘Agency Clinician of the Month’?
What a surprise and honor! I appreciate everything CMS does for me and it is nice to know they value their employees.
